PSALM Board of DirectorsValerie Yova, President Valerie Yova, President, is Music Director for St. Anthony's (Antiochian) Orthodox Church in La Jolla, California and also Director of Development and Public Relations for Project Mexico. Prior to moving to California in 2003, Valerie was Music Director at St. George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral (OCA) in Southfield, Michigan for 14 years and was a member of the voice faculty at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is one of the founders of the Orthodox Christian Chorale of Metropolitan Detroit, and served as Chairperson of the Music Committee for the Council of Orthodox Christian Churches in metropolitan Detroit for five years. Valerie received the Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from New England Conservatory and a Bachelors Degree in Vocal Performance from Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory. From 1989 to 1997 she served as Director of Development and Outreach and then Executive Director for the Lyric Chamber Ensemble, comprised of members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Valerie is serving as the President and Chairman of the Board for PSALM, Inc. for the 2005-2006 year, and as Coordinator of PSALM's first national conference in Cicero, IL. (August, 2006) While still persuing a performing career and studying in New York in the 1980s, Valerie served as a paid section leader at Holy Trinity (Greek) Cathedral in New York City and later as interim choir director at Holy Trinity (OCA) parish in Yonkers, NY. Email: vysheets@aol.com V. Rev. Fr. Sergei Glagolev is a retired priest and composer, whose musical works were published by PSALM, Inc., in 2002. He is a retired Lecturer, St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary, Crestwood, NY; Professor Emeritus, St. Tikhon's Seminary, South Canaan, PA; Director Emeritus, Fellowship of Orthodox Stewards; and Visiting Professor, St. Herman's Seminary, Kodiak, AK, Orthodox Church in America. Hank Andruss has more than 50 years of vocal and instrumental musical experience, including responsibilities as Orthodox singer, reader/psaltoi, choir director, and music arranger. A graduate of Diablo Valley Community College, he worked with IBM for more than 30 years, working on mainframe computers, operating systems, and applications. He also has expertise in high volume printing and currently works as a computer consultant for major corporations. His occupational and musical background and his experience as an Orthodox musician support PSALM's aim of making music available to Orthodox choirs. Email: handruss@qmail.com Mark Bailey, a co-founder of PSALM, Inc., serves on the faculty of St. Vladimir's Orthodox Seminary, Crestwood, New York, where he conducts and teaches composition, choral leadership techniques, and voice. He is also the Artistic Director of the Yale Russian Chorus (YRC). His music performance degrees are from the Eastman School of Music and the Yale School of Music. His work with the YRC is featured on the recording Chants and Carols, which has received critical acclaim. In addition to extensive conducting and recording achievements, he is a prolific composer of instrumental and choral/vocal music and has been noted by The New York Times as an expert in the field of Slavic sacred music. Email: mark.bailey@yale.edu Protodeacon Peter Danilchick is presently attached to The Protection of the Mother of God Orthodox Church, Falls Church, Virginia, Romanian Episcopate, OCA. Over half of his 30 years of diaconal service was spent overseas in Japan, Singapore, Australia, Germany and Hong Kong. In the US (Texas and New Jersey), he served parishes of the OCA and the Antiochian Archdiocese. He is presently a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Vladimir's Seminary (SVS), Crestwood NY. He has served on the OCA NY-NJ Diocesan Council and the Metropolitanate Council of Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, Ecumenical Patriarchate, and was recently appointed to the OCA Department of Pastoral Life and Ministry. Protodeacon Peter holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering from The Cooper Union For The Advancement Of Science And Art and Syracuse University, respectively. He has 33 years of operations, planning and general management experience with Exxon Mobil Corporation, where he retired in 2003. Alice Hughes is a co-founder of PSALM, Inc. and currently serves as its Treasurer and as Editor-in-Chief of PSALM Notes. She served as Executive Director of PSALM, Inc., from 1996 to 2000. She holds a B. Mus. degree in Choral Music Education from the Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific, Stockton, California. She has served as a church choir director and voice teacher for 20 years and for eight years has directed an Orthodox children's choir. With her long-time collaborator, Anne Schoepp, she established the West Coast Liturgical Singing Seminar and has produced and directed three recordings for Seraphim Six Productions. She is Choir Director at the St. Lawrence Chapel in Felton, California. Email: alice@orthodoxpsalm.org Vladimir Morosan, D.M.A., has worked in the field of Orthodox singing for more than 25 years. His undergraduate work was at Occidental College, in California, and he holds Masters and Doctoral degrees in Choral Music from the University of Illinois. He has directed choirs in parishes of Russian, Serbian, and Antiochian backgrounds and has taught and lectured widely at church music workshops and conferences. His book Choral Performance in Pre-Revolutionary Russia (1986) is considered the definitive study of this topic. He is President of Musica Russica, a publishing house specializing in Orthodox and Russian music and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Monuments of Russian Sacred Music series. She holds a B.A. in Music from Stanford University and has more than 15 years experience in Orthodox liturgical music leadership positions. She teaches music privately and at St. Theophan Academy. With Alice Hughes, she has organized and directed the West Coast Liturgical Singing Seminar and has produced and directed three recordings for Seraphim Six Productions. She is co-director of the choir of the St. Lawrence Chapel in Felton, California, for which she arranges and composes liturgical music. She has sung with and directed numerous community and academic choral groups. A graduate of Duke University, she holds graduate degrees in Music and in Social Work from Rutgers University and was a Mid-Career Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University. She completed a career in human relations with the federal government before joining the PSALM Board. She is currently employed part-time as a Medical Social Worker with the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice. |
