Over 65 Orthodox Church musicians and clergy participated in a workshop on Saturday, March 19, 2005, sponsored by the Council of Orthodox Christian Churches (C.O.C.C.) of Metropolitan Detroit.  Titled, “When the Saints Go Marchin’ In,” the workshop focused on the development of the Divine Liturgy and the various uses of processions in worship.  Special emphasis was placed on the use of Responsorial Psalm Antiphons during the first six centuries of Christianity.  At the conclusion of the workshop, clergy and participants took part in the demonstration of a 6th century Liturgy, beginning with an outdoor procession to the church singing the first two Antiphons responsorially, and up through the Epistle and Gospel readings.

The workshop was organized by the Music Committee of the C.O.C.C., and ad hoc committee of Orthodox choir directors, chanters, readers and clergy. Presenters were Fr. Paul Jannakos of Flint, Michigan and Valerie Yova of San Diego, California.  The event was hosted by the Basilica of St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox parish in Livonia, Michigan.
