The PSALM Liturgical Music Resource

What types of materials are being sought?

The Liturgical Music Resource aims to assemble a complete on-line library of settings for the entire liturgical year, drawing upon materials from any and all Orthodox musical traditions. The primary goal is to serve parishes that celebrate in English (regardless of style of language or specific translation), although materials in other languages can also be accommodated in the database eventually. Materials matching the following descriptions are sought:

  • Musical settings belonging to any of the following categories:
    • Horologion (unchanging hymns of Vespers, Matins, Divine Liturgy)
    • Octoechos (Vesper psalms, Praises, Troparia, Kontakia, Kanons, Prokeimena, Alleluias, etc)
    • Festal Menaion (festal hymns for the 12 major feast days)
    • Triodion (hymns for the Pre-Lenten period, Great Lent, and Holy Week)
    • Pentecostarion (settings for the period from Pascha to All Saints)
    • Daily Menaion (hymns for daily commemoration of saints)
    • General Menaion (hymns for the various categories of saints)
    • Special Needs (hymns for Wedding, Funeral, Baptism, Prayer Service)
    • Non-liturgical (carols, "spiritual verses," "sacred concertos")
  • Chants and chant arrangements representing various ethnic traditions as well as compositions written in a style appropriate for Orthodox worship
  • Arrangements in different voicings appropriate for choirs of varying levels of skill and numerical composition (unison, 2-part, 3-part, 4-part mixed, 4-part men's or women's, children's)
  • Pointed liturgical texts suitable for use with a specific pattern or model melody
  • "Auxiliary" materials of a theoretical or educational nature, such as pitch-giving patterns, vocal warm-ups, analytical schemes for various Tones, etc.

Materials submitted must have "clear copyright." In other words, the music must fall into one of the following categories:

  • Your original adaptation of material in public domain (such as a traditional chant)
  • Your original musical composition to which you own copyright
  • Your arrangement or adaptation of someone else's copyrighted material for which you can demonstrate that you obtained written permission
