Instructions for Submitting Music

Titling and attribution

Musical materials submitted for inclusion in the LMR must be properly titled and contain accurate attribution. Because of variations in existing translations (e.g., "O Gladsome Light," "O Joyful Light," "O Resplendent Light," "O Gladsome Radiance," etc.) it is preferable to title hymns by their liturgical function -- "Evening Entrance Hymn." (The LMR database is able, however, to accommodate existing publications, where a change in the title is not possible.)

To the greatest extent possible, the attribution must clearly identify source of the original material as well as those persons responsible for the current version of the setting.

A complete set of guidelines for titling and attribution is available on the PSALM website.

Indexing

One of the aims of the LMR is to serve as a comprehensive index of all available Orthodox musical materials. To this end, every submission to the LMR must be appropriately indexed, using the interactive web-based form on the PSALM website. The form contains numerous entry aids, such as pop-up windows and help screens to assist the user. Submitters should make every effort to index themselves the material they are submitting. Each entry will then be verified by an LMR staff member for completeness and accuracy. (For assistance with this task, please contact the LMR Project Editor at the e-mail address given below.)

Formatting

The LMR aims to present musical materials of the highest quality, formatted and typeset according to accepted standards of the music publishing industry. For new materials, it is highly recommended that submitters use one of the templates provided on the PSALM website and follow the procedures outlined in the manual entitled "Typesetting Orthodox Liturgical Music". Materials previously typeset will also be considered, as long as they conform to basic formatting standards.

Portable Document Format (PDF)

To ensure maximum cross-platform compatibility and a smooth document flow, submissions must be made as PDF documents, with all fonts embedded. PDF documents may be created either by using Adobe Acrobat (full version) or a shareware application such as pdf995 or PDFCreator for Windows (www.pdf995.com, or www.sector7g.wurzel6.de/produkte/index.htm#1 ) or macps2pdf, a subset of MacGhostview (www.kiffe.com/macghostview.html) for Macintosh.
