PSALM
2003 Annual Meeting
Directory of Orthodox Liturgical Music Resources
and Church Musicians
| Purpose: |
To provide a resource that will facilitate communication and collaboration among Orthodox church musicians, clergy and others; to provide information about musical and educational resources two of the key goals of PSALM.
|
| Scope: |
To include as many organizational references as possible, typically within North America, and primarily those utilizing the English language. This included:
Courses of Study
Research Institutions and Libraries
Liturgical Music Departments of various jurisdictions
Orthodox Liturgical Music Organizations
Publishers and Retailers
Websites
E-Groups
To include as many PSALM members as possible (and their contact information).
To publish the Directory annually.
|
| Process: |
All the work for the first edition of the Directory was accomplished by a group of volunteers, who spent hours researching on the internet, referred to a number of publications, and networked with various individuals to compile the data, as well as verify the data for accuracy. A centralized database of organizations was created and continually updated.
Advertising was solicited, and the sale of ads covered some of the expenses of developing the directory.
PSALM member data was checked and re-checked for accuracy.
The raw data was then formatted in draft form, reviewed again, cover designed, reformatted, printed and mailed to members in December 2002.
|
| Website: |
The organization data was uploaded to the PSALM website in May 2003.
|
| Future Plans: |
To recruit a volunteer willing to take on the responsibility of the Directory, including overall coordination of the project, updating and augmenting the information, formatting, printing, and mailing of the Directory to PSALM membership.
To update the website regularly with new data regarding organizations.
To interface the Directory with the website contact database to obtain the most recent contact information automatically.
